Associate Research Technologist for Multimedia
Loren Olson is an Associate Research
Technologist for Multimedia in the Arts, Media and Engineering Program at Arizona State University.
Before joining the AME program, Loren spent the previous 14 years creating animation and effects for film and television. Working as an animator and technical director, he has created imagery for projects ranging from feature films to commercial television spots, direct to home video childrens' programs to tv show opens. His awards include eight Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards.
Loren has also been a tool maker, producing software to
aid in animation production. He has created tools for all parts of the
animation pipeline: "glue" tools to aid in communication betweens
proprietary systems (from the ancient days of the Ampex Paint System,
to Wavefront TAV, Discreet Flame, to modern desktop systems Alias Maya
and Apple Final Cut Pro), as well as modeling, animation and custom rendering
sytems. His software has been used for custom in-house productions and
distributed worldwide by SGI and Abekas Video Systems (the A60 and A65
disk recorder control panel software) and Wavefront Technologies (the
medit3d texture editor).
Loren received his B.S. in Computer Science from Arizona
State University.
