The motion analysis and interactivity systems

One of the first challenges the motion analysis team had was how to capture the movement of multiple dancers on a theatre stage. It was quickly decided that markering and attempting to capture the entire company would put too much of a strain on the motion capture system, so we opted to marker just four dancers. Having identified these four dancers, we began developing ways to find how they were related in both space and time.Looking for patterns in the movement of multiple dancers is a challenging task. First of all, we needed to determine what types of features to look for in the choreography that could be used in a meaningfulway both by the visual and sound artists. We identified several aspects of the movement we coulduse, such as the dynamics of each performer, how performers are grouped together inspace, if there is correlation between performers dynamically and how these correlations relate to each other in time.
