Real time motion
capture of multiple movers (part 2)
The first motion capture challenge being researched
in this project is:
achieving high quality motion capture involving combinations of
1 to 4 markered and 1 to 3 unmarkered movers, happening on theater
stages and involving lighting and projection necessary for successful
immersive multimodal environments.
Specific issues being researched
are:
Camera placement
The solutions we are developing allow for unobtrusive, high quality
sensing of the complete volume of the stage. They overcome the
following challenges:
- cameras cannot be placed outside the volume
of the stage but must cover as much of the
stage as possible
- side lighting on stage influences the infrared
sensing and thus restricts camera placement
- reflectivity of
the Marley floor influences the infrared sensing and thus
restricts camera placement
- visible (red light) infrared cameras influence
the lighting
- bright lighting “washes out” the
markers
- cameras must be placed high above the stage
so as not to obtrude into the projection and scenery
