Education

The School of Arts, Media and Engineering offers a unique Media Arts and Sciences Ph.D. program, in which students focus on translating and transporting knowledge across disciplines. This transdisciplinary degree is heavily focused on collaborative research, with courses complementing research activities.

AME also offers digital media concentrations to students pursuing master's and Ph.D. degrees in 10 different disciplines. Concentration students take two-thirds of their coursework through their unit and one-third of their coursework with AME. All concentrations include substantial credit hours devoted to interdisciplinary research and thesis work within the AME research network.

AME students explore the synergies between research and courses in the evolving field of experiential media while working with world-class faculty who are leading innovation in the field. AME courses are designed to complement and enhance the research that students conduct at AME. Courses cover the key research areas in experiential media: sensing, perception and modeling, feedback and interaction, and experiential construction. Above all, the AME student experience is becoming part of a network, taking part in research modules, class projects, informal after-class gatherings, and the AME Student Association (AMESA).

Whether you're a prospective student or are already enrolled in the AME program, you'll find answers to the most commonly asked questions about our unique, transdisciplinary graduate program: What master's and Ph.D. degrees are offered? How do the AME concentrations align with other degree offerings at ASU? How does this program allow students to work across so many different disciplines? What kinds of students do well in the AME master's programs and the Media Arts and Sciences Ph.D. program?
